Some clarity here given some recent revelations… Apple claims the old batteries are incapable of meeting peak performance demands over time. The choice to reduce performance is apparently to avoid random device shutdowns. That said, why isn't this issue affecting other devices using similar battery tech? Are people using iPhone's longer? Either way the argument regarding lack of transparency remains. Here's the full statement from Apple,
Our goal is to deliver the best experience for customers, which includes overall performance and prolonging the life of their devices. Lithium-ion batteries become less capable of supplying peak current demands when in cold conditions, have a low battery charge or as they age over time, which can result in the device unexpectedly shutting down to protect its electronic components.
Last year we released a feature for iPhone 6, iPhone 6s and iPhone SE to smooth out the instantaneous peaks only when needed to prevent the device from unexpectedly shutting down during these conditions. We’ve now extended that feature to iPhone 7 with iOS 11.2, and plan to add support for other products in the future.
2 years later and they are still slowing the old iPhones..
me, my dad and my brother all have iPhone 6… my phone freezes and works so slow… my brother and dads phone battery is the worst thing ever. it dies so quickly.

Am i the only one here in 2020? Anyway id choose performance over battery life cose you could always buy a protection/battery cover for tour phone. And theese days apps are heavy and performance is needed
Samsung does the same thing when you have your phone for too long they start sending you updates to slow down the phone You didn't ask for the update they force you to update the phone an update you might not like

This videos show opposite than what i thinks .. peoples chose performance over battery i think.. since you can change batteries or use power bank and other options but you can't increase performance that iphone … soo slowing down the performance over battery is nonsense for me since battery have many options than performance drop
Personally I like to have more battery life than performance, but this does just depend on how you use your device and I use my phone to watch YouTube and play light games.
The thing is I can manage using the same phone software I've been using, The real problem is when I can't use my phone at all, Like it dies when I'm in public 🙄
I don’t trust Apple as far as I can throw it in they do a lot of shady stuff especially now I know this video is two years old but even now you can’t even do what you want with your phone but to answer your question I would take performance and just put a new battery in my phone because it would be a cheaper way to go for me at least

It’s not only about the battery, it’s about killing the old phones. My iPhone 7 Plus was working great and suddenly started getting slow and over heating after updates. One time it became too hot until it died. I took it for repair and the guy made it work the next day. Thanks for Apple stupidity that they taught me we can’t live under the world order of Google and Apple. Fk you Google and Apple.
