Your office just made me realize what a huge nerd I really am.
I got the first gen FLIR One right after it came out for my iPhone 5. Looks like they haven’t innovated that much in 4-5 years. The Pro is better, but the base model is exactly the same as what my first gen puts out.
Can this be used to detect Elevated Body Temperature or Fever ?
Thanks for the video but at double the price is it really double the tech ? I don’t think so. I’m an hvac tech and I use the flir one consumer model and it works wonderfully.
Absolute crap, 3rd generation and still the same issues. Don’t buy!!!
What? Who cares what a laptop is doing. That that thing outside on an over cast night in the woods or in a field. We know what fire looks like ,,,,It's hot as hell. I could detect that with my hand a foot away.
Would Flir One/Pro work if there was continuous battery power? what I mean is that, could you connect a portable battery pack to charge it while you operated the device?
*Not sure if someone else has asked the same question before.
Thanks!
Thanks for doing this comparison. Clearly the Pro gives more detail and its higher price seems justified.
The Flir One from 2015 has 160×120 . I'm not overly convinced either of these is an upgrade.
what's with the vertical flir videos? can it shoot horizontal? or will the flir data overlays and watermark be sideways? and can you remove those data overlays?
Great video, nice clear side by side shots. Interesting that in some examples the pro is noticeably sharper(the flame and pipes) while others not so much(the router)
What’s the resolution of the thermal camera sensor?
You have a gas stove but electric dryer?
Nice to see this I am a certified level one Thermal Electrical inspector . The company thermal camera was $25,000 in 2002 many Years ago lol. I do recommend having training for set up and to read the image correctly . lots of thermal reflections will show false readings . Good tool if used properly. You can find Training at Infraspection.com
On the cable modem shots, were the images labelled correctly? The Pro image, to me, looks less detailed than the Flir One…
Mot lord what has that iPhone been through that case is destroyed 😂😂😂😂😂
Nice. I will pay the price just to see who farts in the London underground train and expose them . I love tech
The Pro version for Android actually costs $70 more than the iOS version.
Take that beat up old case off
Their big issue — which still seems to be cropping up — is problems with the battery. They’ll randomly stop holding a charge, be unable to charge at all, or suddenly stop charging beyond some random number. It seems more like a software error than a problem with their chemistry. I’ve had one for… three? years now, and have had a warranty replacement. They’ve been good about that, at least. My current one is slow to charge and dies quickly, so it might be time for another. They’re also still living down a terrible policy at launch where the app had to sign in to their servers or it wouldn’t open. Which would be a problem if you were, say, under a house. They removed that pretty quickly, but the product page still gets comments about it. Let that be a lesson to app designers — stupid DRM decisions will haunt you.
Lon, stop using sandpaper to clean your phone.
Nice & Thanks 🙂
Have you verified the accuracy of the temperature readings from the Flir devices with another temperature sensor like a laser temperature gun or another similar device?
Dammit man! Why do you do this to me? I've gotta have one 🙂
Flir is incredible stuff indeed.
Great video Lon. Question. Will the unit record and charge the battery at the same time? I'm wondering if it had a constant supply of power will this extend the use time without draining the battery.
Great review Lon. In my professional career (Glass Manufacturing) we used a lot of IR cameras to monitor the production process. They were amazingly expensive as you said – $30 to $40 thousand dollars and had a water cooling jacket. They had a rotating front surfaced mirror that would scan along the field of view. This is amazing what you can now get in a small handheld package.
They made a lot of nice improvement on these devices and I'm so tempted to get one to play around with. You have a good point about the lightning connector, when FLIR first released these devices it had 30-pin connectors on it and lightning just came out, so they had to discount them almost immediately. They also had issues of the app crashing and lag or improper readings. But these new revisions look good, and way cheaper than an official FLIR hardware device.
Great video! Question: Can you run the camera using a powerbank attached to it?
