How to Fix Home Button Not Working on iPhone, iPod touch and iPad

iFixit:

In this video I give a tutorial on how to fix a home button that isn’t working on an iPhone, iPod touch or iPad. This can be if your home button is being laggy, unresponsive or just totally dead. I show how to calibrate your home button, restarting to clear any iOS issues, using AssistiveTouch to give you a virtual home button or simply replacing the home button on your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad.

  1. My old, 4th-generation iPod's home button stopped working yesterday. I wasn't excited about having to buy a new iPod or bring this one somewhere to have it fixed. Then I came across your video and the brilliant idea (which I perhaps should have known about but had no clue) to enable AssistiveTouch. Thanks a bunch, Austin!

  2. If you have an iPhone 3 you cannot update beyond iOS 4.2.1. Assistive Touch and Switch Control are features in the Accessibility functions that are found in iOS 5 and later, which means there is no way to simulate the home button on your phone. Your only choices are to get the phone repaired, replaced, or upgrade to a newer model.

    Hold my beer.

  3. I dropped my iPhone 8 Plus in some water , it didn’t really have a reaction , just the home button. Be sound was fine , the screen was fine , but it so hard to press the home button and it’s hard too make it respond.

  4. my home button was slightly not secure and would move a little after i got the screen replaced. i didn’t think much of it until a month later the home button wouldn’t work unless i pressed it at an angle. so i followed a different tutorial and it broke the home button completely :/

  5. OMG THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS. I was wracking my brain about how to fix my home button issue, it totally busted, without shelling out a ton of money on a repair (for serious the only repair place around charges 100 dollars as a base price). This SAVED my sanity and my wallet.
