How to record drums manually in GarageBand iOS (iPhone/iPad)
In this video, I show you how I record drums in GarageBand iPad and GarageBand iPhone.
There are many ways to add drum tracks to your GarageBand iOS projects, including loops, beat sequencer, virtual drummer and smart drums, but sometimes you want to have complete control over your drum sound, and that’s where the “Drums” instrument can be the best option.

This is great. Thanks for sharing. I wish you make a video in Chinese or the Taiko drums.
Why is it that when you hit the crash it also hits the kick drum? I do not want that to happen..
I’m trying to record “Something” by The Beatles. And you know the drum intro? Well I’m doing it, but the output sounds so weird. It’s like so off tempo and like ntpot the way I recorded it.

How do you get those multicoloured bars to structure songs??? So much basic info missed out in this video.
Hi Pete, Stu here. Just new to your channel.. which is great by the way. Are you 'playing' / tapping the drums literally on the ipad? or on a pad? ie soft pads on a keyboard? Thanks 🙂
im digging this track !
I saw a video once of someone who covered a full song on garageband.
I noticed that the format of drums were classed as one layer named hi-hat, one layer named snare, one named bass etc.
I was wondering how they did that sort of arrangement seperately, i’m trying to do some sort of green day ish drums.
I am going to try this in my track I am currently recording …! 🙂
How do you enlarge the screen when editing the drum beats. It's way to small and it's hard to manage with my fat fingers?

can i record song with garageband without copyright issue of using the app? i mean to upload on youtube after recording
Great information, I would use the rimshot instead of the snare
Nice. I like the played in drums better. Sometime you just need to have a bit more human involvement. Nice singing.
Hey Pete, Are you playing this right on the glass or on a midi controller? It sounds good to me however you did it. , I wish they would change the drummer so we could freeze it or something in order to edit it as midi, i suspect they don’t because its fluid and can be changed in other ways.
Always feels good to play your own. Couple tricks from back in the day on timing and feel (for non-drummers) 1) Reduce tempo when recording real time, easier to hit closer to the beat. Then see how it feels at full tempo. 2) Only quantize the kick (anchor) everything else real time, or kick and high hat as reference (then later redo HH real time). 3) Only quantize first beat of section (or even measure). That beat is dead on, everything else has a little human drift. Nice track, by the way.
I use manual drums all the time, as you said it gives us more control. Good video as always pete!
Drums always need to be custom. That's why I have a drum set, bongos, cajon, tambourine, and various shakers. I just don't have any room. Lol! Thanks for the tips.
You play the touch drums pretty good, Pete. It sounds very close to an acoustic drum set. Lovely song btw.
I'm a singer, guitarist and keyboard player. What I am not is a drummer. I'm just terrible at it. What I've found is that when I do input drums manually, I do it in baby steps. Snark track, bass track, high hat track etc. I also found that quantization was not helping, so I shut it off, fix it in post if necessary. Honestly, I'll go with the auto drummer whenever I can. I've recently bought a KAJON. I'm not a drummer but I am an excellent tapper and the kajon is so much fun. My favorite instrument now after guitar. I actually sat in with a local band last night.
Hey man thanks, good workflow. The song sounds very good as well.
