Enough of these boring looking iPhones – let’s make a custom Strange Parts iPhone here in Shenzhen, China. I headed out to the cell phone parts markets in Huaqiangbei, to find a custom iPhone back. I then headed off to the laser engraving booths to have them etch a custom design in the iphone back. I think it came out pretty well!

I've done laser engravings for about ten years and Corel Draw is quite popular in Finland too because it's cheaper than Adobe products. Big companies still use Adobe as Corel still has quite some trouble importing pdf-files which are often used by customers. It has been getting better lately.

The capacity of a battery is determined by its gas gauge IC – it's entirely possible and normal for new batteries to register higher than their design capacity, and this isn't a bad thing. The charger isn't going to try to "charge it to" a specific capacity level – the charger is going to have a voltage cutoff point. The fact that the capacity level listed is higher than designed will not cause the battery to swell – it's more likely that the exact chemistry of the defective battery cannot handle the voltage level the charging circuit is configured to stop charging at due to various reasons – perhaps internal resistance causing heat.
The gas gauge IC on the battery will figure out the capacity of the battery as it charges and discharges based on the voltage and current. The gas gauge capacity figure can be faked though by third party chips.
